A shopping center nearly as big as Hamburg Pavilion is on the horizon in Scott County.

The Shoppes at Equestrian Crossing will have 850,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. It is the second major retail development planned for the fast-growing county.

Built on about 225 acres, it will have six big-box anchor stores of more than 75,000 square feet and five or six junior anchor stores of 20,000 to 75,000 square feet. It will include smaller shops, two hotels and a movie theater, said C.J. May, president of the Lexington-based May Commercial Group, which is developing the center with CBL & Associates Properties Inc.

CBL & Associates Properties, which is based in Chattanooga, owns Fayette Mall in Lexington and Jefferson Mall in Louisville.

May said he has commitments from two big-box stores, but no announcement has been made of which stores will locate there.
